My family owns a 52' Narrowboat with
an interesting history.
Viking Warrior was originally commissioned in 1975 as a "recreation" boat for the crew of British Naval base HMS Warrior. Built by Mindon Marine of Pinxton Nottinghamshire, she is an all-steel cruiser style narrowboat with a Lister SR3, three cylinder diesel engine. We acquired her when she was taken out of service in 1992. We had been looking at a number of Narrowboats and she stood out from the rest due to her very high quality "fit out". So that Viking could accommodate a large number of people, the cabins were originally rather cramped. When we bought her, there were bunks for nine people, which is quite a few for a fifty-two footer. Some of these have now been removed to make things a bit more spacious. Recently we have decided to repaint her in a new livery. The paintwork is rather tired and it seems the perfect opportunity to change things. We now keep Viking on the River Stort in Hertfordshire. |
